Canadian miner Uranium One Inc. said on Monday that a storm water containment at its Dominion Reefs uranium mine in South Africa burst over the weekend after 58 millimeters of rain fell on the area in 30 minutes.
The company said it repaired the damage, and estimates that about 100 megalitres of water was discharged into a nearby stream that feeds the Vaal River.
"Based on initial water sampling and analysis," the company said in a statement, it "does not expect any environmental impact due to the discharge." (There never is, and thankfully it did not occur in Canada.)
